The art of subtlety, which is what Kosho Ryu Kempo is based on, is the art of understanding illusion and the difference between illusion and reality. We perceive that if we do something with our body that somebody else will move. That is understood, but it is too simplistic. If we understand the slightest motion in the process of taking a step, how many muscle groups and how much of your anatomy is actually manipulated by that step. Then we have to understand if it is the step that manipulated the body, or is it the ground that manipulated the step through the subconscious mind? You see, what we are discussing is not just the martial artist positioning against an opponent. It is you learning more about your own self when it comes to posture and positioning, whether it be in throwing, striking, swordplay, or other various things.
